Kushi Wuayra Community Tourism
This is a pleasant program of intercultural tours in which you will be able to access the daily life of a small community located 15 km. from the south of Cuenca where the traditions and ancestral habits are still kept.
This program includes activities like lamb shearing, participating of "siembras" (seed planting), cropping fruits and vegetables, spinning fabrics, observing traditional dances, horseback riding, hiking on the beautiful Andean forests into the area in which medicinal plants and their healing properties can be appreciated, and sharing a traditional meal called "Pampamesa", and you might be invited to help preparing it.
Also, this community has a plant of handmade production of cheese called "Nukanchic Kawsay" which means "our life".
It is managed by the "Jambi Rune" Community Foundation which works to rescue and to maintain the customs of the indigenous communities in Azuay.
These activities can be carried out in the populations of Tarqui, San Francisco de Totorillas, Chilca Chapar, Chilca Totoras, Parcoloma, and El Verde.
The funds collected from these activities are used to elevate the quality of lifestyle of these communities.
There is a possibility to spend the night in a housing adjusted by the community, besides listening to indigenous legends under the stars.
The MAMA KINUA Cultural Center in Cuenca offers more information about reservations. It has a documentation center about most of the indigenous cultures of the area. It is located on Juan Jaramillo Street No. 6-35.
